Sports 2/16/24



The Idaho State men's basketball team fell to Eastern Washington in Cheney, 82-88.  Their second meeting of the year with the Eagles the Bengals fell to EWU in Pocatello earlier this season. After the loss, Idaho State falls to 11-15 overall and 6-7 in Big Sky play. The team will be back in action tomorrow on the road in Moscow taking on rivals, the Idaho Vandals, at 3 pm.


The Idaho State women's basketball team battled the Eastern Washington Eagles in Reed Gym last night.  In the end they fell shot 59 to 56.  The Bengals are back home tomorrow at 2:00 PM taking on the University of Idaho. It is the Bengals' annual 'Pink Game' and fans are encouraged to wear pink and help the Bengals work to fight breast cancer.


The College of Southern Idaho Softball Team dropped two games to top-ranked Florida Southwestern yesterday in the Bucs home tournament.  The Golden Eagles struggled on defense all day, finishing with seven errors through both games. CSI gave up four unearned runs in the first game and seven in the second and struggled to find some offense to counter it.  CSI takes on Miami-Dade and Indian River today.


The 15th-ranked College of Southern Idaho womens basketball team started the game hot from the field but came up short when 20th-ranked Salt Lake clawed its way back into the game, ultimately winning 70-64 yesterday in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.  CSI travels to Snow College tomorrow.


In district varsity high school basketball games for the boys yesterday, Canyon Ridge took the win over Jerome 67 to 47.  Canyon Ridge advances to the championship game and will play Minico. The Tigers fall into the consolation bracket and will match up with Wood River for the second time in the tournament Tuesday.


It was Minico 41 over Twin Falls 39.  Minico advances to the title game against Canyon Ridge on Wednesday.  The Bruins fall to the consolation bracket and will host Burley on Tuesday.


Nine Magic Valley girls basketball teams begin their title quests at the Idaho High School Girls Basketball Championships in the Boise area with the finals tomorrow at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.  Murtaugh opened the tournament for the Magic Valley with a 66-53 loss to Prairie.


Elsewhere Pocatello downed Jerome 49 to 42.  Jerome will play Minico at 7 p.m. tonight.

Skyline downed Minico 60 to 53.  Minico will face No. 7 seed Jerome tonight at 7 p.m. in an all Great Basin Conference consolation game.


Teton took the win over Kimberly 69 to 28.  The Lady Bulldogs will play Fruitland at noon today in the consolation round.


Timberlake downed Filer 36 to 30.  Filer will play American Falls in a consolation game today at 2 p.m.


It was Bear lake 55 over Declo 26.  Declo will play Soda Springs at 2 p.m.today in a consolation game.


Prairie defeated Murtaugh 66 to 54.  Murtaugh will play Rimrock at noon today in a consolation game.


It was Oakley 51 downing Liberty Charter 512 to 36.  Oakley advanced to the semifinals and will play Lapwai 7 pm tonight.


Lapwai downed Valley 64 to 27.  The Lady Vikings will play Liberty Charter today in a consolation game at 2 p.m.


Dietrich took the win over Rockland 51 to 34. 


On to the high school basketball schedule for the weekend, for the boys district tournament games, tomorrow Hagerman and Dietrich meet in Gooding.
