As charter schools in Idaho are planning their spending for the year, they won’t have lottery money.  Traditional public schools also have to adjust their budgets.  That’s thanks to House Bill 521 that was approved this past legislative session.  The new formula reworks how schools can use the funds and removes charter schools from receiving any of it.  Traditional schools can no longer use the funds for maintenance and operations.  The funds first go to payment of existing bonds and levies and then plant facility levies.

The Idaho State Board of Education has set a new minimum number of instructional days for public K-12 schools across the state. Currently, more than half of Idaho’s local education agencies which include school districts and charter schools operate on a four-day school week. Now they need a minimum at 152.  Idaho public schools on a four-day schedule average 146, compared to 172 days for schools operating on a five-day week.

The convict who escaped from a Boise Hospital and the man who allegedly assisted in the escape are facing more charges.  Skyler Meade and Nicholas Umphenour have been indicted for the murder of 83 year old James Mauney of Juliaetta.  Police say they are continuing their investigation into the death of 72 year old Gerald Don Henderson of Orofino.

Starting today, hundreds of Republican delegates from across the state will gather in Coeur d’Alene to elect a party chairperson and vote on the Idaho Republican Party’s platform, rules and resolutions.  The state convention is held every two years.

The Idaho State Board of Education has approved contract renewals and budget changes at the state's universities.  Dr. Marlene Tromp from Boise State University will be paid $473 thousand.  Scott Green receives 479 thousand and Dr. Cynthia Pemberton from Lewis Clark will be paid 297 thousand.  Boise State Head Football Coach Spencer Danielson’s contract runs through February, 2029. His base compensation is $1 point 55 million.

As students across the Gem State begin their summer breaks, Idaho's Department of Education is reminding families of the Summer Food Service Program which is now operating around the state.  The meals are available to children between the ages of 1 and 18 with no income requirements.
